Mathematics actions at a full-time high school in Rio Grande do Norte. (1978-2019): Continuities and amendments
Full-time Mathematics Teaching; History of Mathematics Education; Mathematical Practices; Full-time High School
The present work is centered on the study of the History of Mathematics Education (HME) and the History of the Present Time (HTP), and aims to identify and analyze the permanence and changes that have occurred in the teaching practices of Mathematics teachers who worked/act in full-time high schools, in Rio Grande do Norte (RN), from 1978 to 2019. This research has a qualitative character, using the following methodological procedures: bibliographic research, documentary research, field research and semi-structured interviews. Guided by the concept that full-time teaching is not limited to expanding the journey of activities in spaces of knowledge acquisition, nor only to the practice of an integrated curriculum, desiring to know about the HME developed over the years in RN, We elaborated the following question: what are the permanences and what are their existing changes in the teaching practices of Mathematics in high schools that worked/work in the modality of education/integral education, from 1978 to 2019? Three schools were selected, which throughout the time frame of this research, developed/develop full-time activities: two in boarding school format and the third full-time. In these, we conducted interviews with five former students and with three mathematics teachers who taught / teach in these institutions. To complement the reported experiences, we included the experiences of another full-time teacher who sent us a video with his testimony for the composition of the Educational Product (EP). This PE consists of an audiovisual resource in video format, entitled Teaching practices in mathematics in education/integral education in RN (1978-2019): continuities and changes. The video is the record of the mathematical practices developed by the teachers who were willing to demonstrate, from their speeches, how they worked/work in these modalities of basic education in RN. The purpose of the video is to reach teachers in initial and continuing education, as well as other teachers who are teaching Mathematics. For the conclusion of the research, we analyzed the speeches and identified in them continuities and changes in the practices developed by the professors in the investigated institutions. We observed that there was both the permanence of the traditional methodology over the years, as well as adaptations to the characteristic models of the schools in which the teachers taught.
