SUMMARY:

INTRODUCTION: The postpartum period is characterized by significant changes in the female body, including abdominal pain and diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles. In Brazil, with the significant increase in the number of deliveries, there is a growing interest in non-pharmacological therapeutic approaches to maternal health. Kinesio taping, in turn, stands out as a non-pharmacological method, widely accepted by the population and increasingly applied to postpartum women. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of kinesio taping on pain and diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles in postpartum women. METHODS: A randomized controlled trial will be conducted, including pilot and feasibility studies, with 102 immediate postpartum women, primiparous with a single fetus, aged between 18 and 40 years, and diastasis of at least 2 cm. The participants will be divided into three groups: Kinesio Taping Group (KT for 5 days), Placebo Group (adhesive tape for 5 days), and Control Group (usual care). The study will be publicized both virtually and in person, through partnerships with health units and community radio stations. The principal investigator will make daily visits to Ana Bezerra University Hospital in Santa Cruz/RN to invite postpartum women and provide additional information, respecting the period of up to 72 hours after delivery. The primary outcomes will address the efficacy of kinesio taping on pain and diastasis, as well as secondary outcomes including research feasibility, functionality, and global perceived effect of the treatment. The following instruments will be used: Assessment and Identification Form, Brief Pain Inventory, Maternal Postpartum Quality of Life Questionnaire, WHO Disability Assessment Schedule, and Global Perceived Effect Scale. The data will be analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS®) version 21.0. Descriptive statistics including mean, standard deviation, absolute and relative frequencies will be used to characterize the sample in terms of sociodemographic, clinical, and feasibility aspects. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be used to compare variables between the three groups at three different time points, with potential Welch correction. Functionality comparisons between vaginal and cesarean delivery will be conducted using Student's t-test with correction. Measures will be presented with a 95% confidence interval (CI95%), F statistic, effect size, η2 (eta squared), and the significance level will be set at P<0.05. EXPECTED RESULTS: It is expected to contribute to the literature with valuable evidence for the clinical practice of physiotherapists working in women's health. Additionally, the publication of scientific articles in indexed journals and the presentation of research-related results at scientific events are anticipated.
