RESUMO:

Introduction: Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is a multifactorial condition, that affects more and more individuals around the world, generating costs and consequences for individual and public health. Non-drug therapy includes nutritional factors, body weight reduction, lifestyle changes, physical activity practice, smoking cessation, and stress management. Within this context, the importance of evaluating pulmonary function and the balance between respiratory muscle performance and its ability to maintain efficient pulmonary ventilation, which is the neural respiratory drive (NRD), arises. Thus, this project intends to analyze the NRD during maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) in hypertensive patients. Methods: This is an analytical, cross-sectional and quantitative study, to be carried out between June 2019 and July 2020, at the Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde do Trairi, in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The population of the study will be composed of individuals aged 18 to 70 years of age, of both genders, with a diagnosis of SAH. Participants will be divided into two groups, according to the classification of hypertension, and submitted to the measurement of anthropometric measures, vital signs, NRD and blood tests. The data obtained will be analyzed in the statistical program Statiscal Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. The distribution of the data will be verified by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. A 95% confidence interval and significance level of p <0.05 will be adopted. The sample profile will be described by measurements of central tendency and dispersion and by frequencies and percentages. The correlation between the groups and the anthropometric measures and the lipid profile will be performed, using the Pearson or Spearman correlation test. The NRD will be compared in each group at rest, during and after the MVV, through the Anova test of repeated measurements or Friedman and between the groups by the Kruskal Wallis or Anova test. The study was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde do Trairi (CEP / FACISA), with favorable opinion No. 3.204.568. Expected Results: It is expected to analyze and characterize the influence of the type of SAH on the ventilatory parameters of these individuals, besides identifying how NRD behaves in this population. Also, to correlate the ventilatory capacity and the NRD of this population with the anthropometric measures and lipid profile, in order to contribute more effectively to the non-drug therapeutic proposal of these patients.
