RESUMO:

Introduction: Participation is defined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as engagement of individuals to daily living situations, considering their daily experiences and the context in which they perform their activities. Children with disabilities do not have the same opportunities for participation due mainly to barriers related to the physical, social or attitudinal environment. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the importance of environmental factors on functionality and disability, there is a scarceness of standardized instrumentation to simultaneously assess participation and the environment of this target population. The Young Children's Participation and Environment Measure (YCPEM) proposes to provide this information through a self-applicable questionnaire addressed to parents. Objective: To translate, cross-culturally adapt and validate the YC-PEM questionnaire into a Brazilian Portuguese language version. Method: This is a multicenter, methodological study in which parents or guardians of children with and without disabilities with ages between 0 and 5 (zero and five) years old will participate. For the validation process, a detailed analysis of the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the instrument will be performed. Expected results: With the instrument available for use in Brazil, it will be possible to know the participation levels of Brazilian children with and without disabilities, and also their barriers and environmental facilitators.
