SUMMARY:

Introduction: Considering the biopsychosocial model adopted by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, functioning is impacted by diseases and contextual factors, such as environmental, social, attitudinal, facilitators, or barriers functioning is impacted by diseases, contextual factors (e.g., environmental, social, attitudinal), and facilitators and barriers to human functionality. In this sense, the Model Disability Survey (MDS) was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to map the profile of functioning and disability of people aged over 18 years with or without disabilities. The MDS has been translated and cross-culturally adapted for use in Brazil (MDS-Brazil). The application of the instrument will allow valuable data that may interfere with the disability and functioning of people with different needs and health conditions. Objective: To describe the functioning profile using the module 4000 of the comprehensive versionof MDS-Brazil. Methods: The study will be conducted in the city of Santa Cruz (RN, Brazil) with adults aged over 18 years with and without disabilities. The questionnaire, manual, and presentation cards of the MDS-Brazil will betranslated and cross-culturally adapted in 2021 for the Brazilian population. Data will be collected between July and August 2022 at the homes of 644 participants from different census sectors of the municipality. Participants or legal guardians will be contacted in person and informed about the study. The interview will be conducted in a reserved area of the household, and preference will be given to the use of tablets for applying the MDS-Brazil. The estimated time of the interview is 60 minutes. Answers from modules 1000 and 4000 of the MDS-Brazil will be analyzed according to the WHO, which recommends calculating the prevalence of disability using a cut-off point of the disability score ranging from 0 (no functioning difficulty) to 100 (complete functioning difficulty). For descriptive analyses, absolute and relative frequencies, prevalence, and confidence intervals will be used. The inferential analysis of categorical variables will be performed using Chi-square tests. The significance level adopted will be 5%.
