SUMMARY:

Introduction: Persistent hindfoot pain is a prevalent complaint affecting up to 10% of the population throughout life. One of the recommended treatments is the use of personalized orthotics and the insoles adapted to slippers can be an efficient alternative to manage the pain of individuals with this condition. Objective: To investigate the effects of slipper-adapted insoles on pain, function, walking functional capacity and pain catastrophizing in individuals with persistent hindfoot pain. Methods: This is a protocol for a clinical, controlled, randomized and blinded study, where 80 participants with persistent hindfoot pain will be evaluated and randomized into two intervention groups: insoles adapted to slippers and slippers with sham insole. The evaluations will be carried out at baseline (T0), after 6 (T6) and 12 weeks (T12) of wearing the slippers, and the follow-up will be carried out 4 weeks after the end of the intervention (T16). The primary outcome will be pain, using the Numerical Pain Scale, and the secondary outcomes will be: foot function using the Foot Function Index questionnaire, functional walking capacity using the 6-minute walk test and pain catastrophizing using the Catastrophizing Scale of Pain. Statistical analysis: Data will be analyzed by T-student, Mann-Whitney and repeated measures ANOVA tests and will have intention-to-treat analysis. Ethics and disclosure: This protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of UFRN/FACISA (number 4.018.821). Study results will be shared with participants and submitted to a peer-reviewed journal and scientific meetings.
