FUNCTIONING PROFILE IN SANTA CRUZ: PILOT STUDY
International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, disabled persons, validation study, surveys and questionnaires
Introduction: The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities establishes that its signatories should collect statistical information in order to identify the barriers faced by people with disabilities, seeking to formulate and implement public policies that contribute to the fulfillment of the obligations assumed. There are no validated instruments in Brazil for the collection of population data on disability according to the model recommended by the World Health Organization. Only with the implementation of data collection strategies on disability will it be possible to ensure that the precept of equity in our system be considered. Objectives: a) validation of the Model Disability Survey (MDS) for use in Brazil; 2) determination of the profile of Santa Cruz population functioning for those over 18 years of age; and 3) identify indicators that support the monitoring and development of public policies for people with disabilities in Brazil. Methodology: This research project is composed of two stages. In the first, a validation study of the MDS for use in Brazil will be carried out. For this, 60 interviews will be conducted with people older than 18 years in Santa Cruz, RN. The data will be analyzed according to specific statistical techniques for validation studies. In the second stage of the project, a survey will be conducted to delineate the national profile of functioning. Once again the MDS will be applied at home to 644 adults over 18 years of age in Santa Cruz, RN. For the descriptive analyzes in the second stage of the project, simple and relative frequencies will be used, prevalences and confidence intervals as well. The inferential analysis of the categorical variables will be performed through Chi-Square tests; continuous variables will be tested by the Student t test; Spearman's correction coefficient or its non-parametric correspondents. Crude and adjusted regression models will be employed to determine the differences between the categories of the study variable. The level of significance to be adopted will be 5%. In order for the sample weights to be incorporated into the statistical analysis process in the second step, the “svy” command of the statistical package Stata software will be used. Expected results: Validation of the MDS instrument for use in determining the population functioning profile; The determination of some indicators of the population functioning profile; The functioning profile of the Brazilian population; Formation of 2 masters; Production of at least 3 scientific articles; Adoption of functioning indicators in the process of planning and managing health programs and policies; Possibility of planning health services more appropriate to the profile of the population's functioning.
